Partiality for women
Sexualised violence used as a weapon of war is one aspect of the structural violence inflicted on women around the world. In post-war societies this leads to community solidarity being denied to women as survivors of sexualised wartime violence: those affected are held to be directly or indirectly responsible for what happened, so many feel forced to conceal their injuries or even the crime itself. They are left alone by their society and family, stigmatised and ostracised.
medica mondiale’s staff show unconditional solidarity with women having experienced violence. They are committed to the cause of women and girls as their advocates, speaking openly about and condemning injustice, discrimination and violence.
