How can survivors be empowered and harmful gender norms be shifted?
During the third phase of the Sud Kivu project (2021-2024), supported by medica mondiale four local women-led organisations provided holistic support and mobilised communities against gender-based violence. Despite progress, limited institutional engagement and deep-rooted stigma continue to hinder justice and change. Structural challenges like economic dependency and resistance from traditional leaders reinforce harmful norms. The evaluation highlights the promise of the STA and calls for its deeper integration and sustained capacity building to enable lasting change.
