“I would like to thank all our supporters and implore them not to forget Afghanistan and Afghan women! Now is the time when we need you the most. Your support today not only gives us access to health, education and work. It is also a symbol of hope - for a future in which we all live equally and in peace.”
Since the fundamental Islamist Taliban seized power in Afghanistan again in August 2021, the reality of life for all Afghan women and girls has deteriorated drastically. Their hard-won rights have been gradually reduced - they are now completely excluded from public life, have no right to education and are no longer allowed to carry out self-determined activities.
With the so-called “Vice and Virtue Law”, which was enacted by the Taliban in 2024, this oppression reached a new peak: women are hardly allowed to leave the house, their voices are banned from public life and their freedom of movement is virtually suspended.
The consequences of the inhumane regime are clearly noticeable: Women and girls who are threatened or affected by violence have hardly any safe places to go and their concerns and rights are suppressed from public discourse. In addition to the restriction of their rights, the lives of entire families are characterized by fear. Fear of violence, abduction, forced marriages and rape are an omnipresent part of everyday life, especially for women and girls.
How we can make a difference together
Support for the women who have remained in the country is now more important than ever. Under the current conditions, working for women's rights is life-threatening and often only possible in secret. Our partners in Afghanistan risk their lives to stand up for our common goal: law and justice for women and girls.
Every donation gives hope to Afghan women and girls
Together with our courageous partners, we continue to stand by the side of Afghan women:
- We focus on acute needs on the ground, such as protection and safe spaces for women's rights activists and psychosocial support for women and girls.
- We help women to create informal income opportunities or to continue them despite the restrictions imposed by the Taliban so that they can secure their livelihoods.
- We support activists who have had to leave the country in restarting a safe and self-determined life.
- We help our partners to raise awareness about early marriage, girls' education and violence against women.
- We create protected spaces through digital networking opportunities where activists can exchange, empower and support each other.
- In order to identify further support opportunities, we are in constant exchange with women's rights activists inside and outside Afghanistan.
Your donation is not only a valuable support for our projects. It is a strong sign of solidarity and shows women in Afghanistan that they are not forgotten.
